Shoe or Magazine  Rack

I decided I wanted some where to put slippers and light weight foot wear so it didn't gather on the floor in the door way.
After some thought over the summer I came up with the idea of recessing it into the arm of the couch which had this space that could not be accessed.
This photo is the end result.

I used a router and hand planer to machine frame from Macrocarpa timber.

Ready for gluing & nailing frame.

The rack completed before the installation into the Arm of couch.
A piece of Stainless Steel tube used for the rail and fitted while gluing up frame.
A second piece of tube could be added if you were to use it solely as a magazine rack

Frame work added on the outside of the couch arm ply backing.
The frame being made 2mm over size on all sides to allow room for the fabric to fold in
Foam was cut to fit around the wooden frame & the Dacron padding to the inside edge of the frame
to give the fabric a firm fit to the rebate on the rack

Extra frame work added on the inside of the arm. One at the base to allow screw to be skewed into floor
One just below cutout for rack and one to hold the bottom of the ply on the inside against seat frame and to also screw to the sides of
the rack to hold it all in place in the arm.

Completed arm ready to install back onto couch.
